Matthew has an A.A. in Business Administration from Gainesville College, B.S. in Consumer Economics from the University of Georgia, and M.A. in Geography from Appalachian State University.
Matthew has 20 plus years of experience spanning from residential, commercial, institutional, to industrial construction. As an Executive Committee Member for the ASU Renewable Energy Intuitive, Matthew developed Project Manager skill sets and Task-Oriented Group Facilitation Methods by implementing pilot renewable energy projects across campus and awarded both the State Leadership and North Carolina Sustainable Energy Awards.
Through his work with the GA Weatherization Assistance Program, Matthew enjoyed helping those in need to reduce utility bills, improve quality of life, and acquired several certifications (e.g. 8 different BPI, LEED Green Associate, Healthy Homes, EPA Universal Technician, etc.). With Southface, Matthew helped to manage the LEED for Homes Providership program in addition to managing high profile Green Building Certification projects (e.g. Ponce City Market, Emory Point, Oglethorpe, etc.) and continued to obtain several certifications (e.g. ENERGY STAR HERS Rater, LEED AP Homes/Green Rater, EarthCraft Technical Advisor, etc.). Through EnergyLogic, Matthew provided energy ratings for the nations largest volume home builders, helped to develop the multifamily division, and awarded the ENERGY STAR Partnership Award.
