I can not believe the year went by since the city of Decatur announced the adaptation of a High Performance Ordinance. Well in 2014 they decided to embark on this noble cause, and now is mandatory.
I personally believe this is a HUGH step towards improving construction standards, and a great example of taking a chance and being a leader in the State. Hopefully other municipalities will follow their steps.
Basically, all new homes will need to comply with a green building standard such as EarthCraft, LEED, NAHB Green and other options. The good news is that we already do custom homes ( design – built) to these standards, and through our green rating division provide verification services. In fact, we verified over 400 dwellings last year.
